Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Clinical Laboratory Science

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Clinical Laboratory Science degree from Thomas Edison State University is a 120-credit online degree program. Our program is limited to certified medical laboratory technologists possessing a required ASCP or AMT; MLT or MT; or NCA: CLS or CLT. You must present a copy of your original certificate and current renewal card. If your medical laboratory technology training was not completed in a college credit setting, you may earn credits through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). A total of 18 Area of Study credits must be from 3000/4000 level courses.

Degree Requirements

The following courses are required for the BS degree with an area of study in Clinical Laboratory Science and can be fulfilled in either the General Education or Electives sections of the degree chart. 

• Computer Concepts and Applications (CIS-1070) or above (3 credits)
• Statistics (3 credits)
• College Algebra (3 credits)
• Higher Level Math above College Algebra (3 credits)
• Chemistry I with Lab (4 credits)
• Chemistry II with Lab (4 credits)

How Students Earn Credit in the Area of Study: Students whose medical laboratory technology training was not completed in a college credit setting should have no difficulty earning credits by Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for their areas of study, assuming current or recent employment using a variety of laboratory methods.

Note: Courses listed in the Area of Study are offered as a guide. Other courses may also be considered appropriate for the program. The inclusion of similar courses must be reviewed by the Evaluation team. Students must submit their program plan for review to ensure that course selection is appropriate for the degree.
