Transfer Credit Policy FAQs
Thomas Edison State University has revised and clarified its policy regarding the acceptance of American Council on Education (ACE) and the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) ACE/NCCRS course recommendations. Effective Jan. 1, 2021, the University accepts a maximum of 90 undergraduate credits for a baccalaureate degree and 45 semester hours for an associate degree from noncollegiate providers regardless of the source of the credit. Credit recommendations from providers such as the ACE and NCCRS fall into this category.
This 45/90 credit total maximum includes all ACE and NCCRS recommendations and credit resulting from corporate training, military training, College Board examinations reviewed by ACE, including College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support Exams (DSST), Advanced Placement Exams as well as credits earned from other TESU approved educational providers. This policy applies to all applicants and enrolled students. It also applies to enrolled students who have become inactive within the last 3 years (or 5 years due to active-duty military service).

As an enrolled student, can I apply additional ACE/NCCRS credits to my degree program?
Yes, you can. Please have the transcript(s) sent to TESU immediately. We will review any transfer credit and apply the 45/90 credits per single-source interpretation provided we receive the transcript before March 1, 2021. If we receive your transcript(s) after March 1, 2021, we will review the transfer credit from ACE/NCCRS and apply it to your degree requirements in accordance with the policy clarification of up 45/90 credits total from both sources. If your record already has more than 45/90 credits from any single source, we will allow that to remain on your record as long as you maintain enrollment.
