e-Pack Courses

At Thomas Edison State University, our online e-Pack courses are one of many ways to earn credit and use approaches designed specifically with the adult learner in mind. e-Pack courses are for undergraduate students only.

How e-Pack Courses Work

e-Pack courses are online courses designed around study materials and a series of online quizzes. The courses run on a 12-week semester basis and are well suited for independent learners who prefer a study schedule that does not require assignments or mentor interaction.

Quizzes and the Final Exam

After studying a section of the study materials, students take a short online quiz and receive an immediate score, plus feedback to help strengthen weak areas. The quiz scores do NOT count towards course results and are only used to help students prepare for the final exam. Students may take each quiz as many times as needed until they are confident that they have learned the material. A particularly flexible feature of e-Pack courses is that students can study and take the quizzes at their own pace.

Course results are based on a proctored comprehensive final exam taken by the end of the semester. Once a student passes the final exam, they receive credit for the course. Another advantage of e-Pack courses is that students may schedule their exam before the end of the semester, if they are ready. This allows students to work more rapidly and earn credits in less time.

About Short Online Quizzes

Students access the quizzes through Moodle, the University's online course management system. Each quiz has 10 to 15 multiple-choice questions and there are anywhere from 10 to 20 quizzes per course.

The quiz scores do NOT count towards the course results. They are only used to help students prepare for the comprehensive final exam.

Students may take the quizzes in any order and repeat them as many times as they want. In fact, students will see a few new questions each time they take a quiz, so we recommend that students take each quiz several times, even if they get a perfect score the first time.

After a student finishes a quiz, they will submit their answers online and receive an immediate quiz score as well as feedback. Students are not given the correct answers to questions. Instead, they are expected to look up the correct answers in their study materials. By studying the topics they miss, students will learn the material rather than memorizing answers.

About Course Results

e-Pack® course results are posted to a student's file as CR (Credit) or NC (No Credit) and do not affect a student's grade point average (GPA).

Also, only CR results appear on a Thomas Edison State University transcript. Therefore, a student's transcript will not show a test score, a letter grade, or an unsuccessful e-Pack® course, only courses that have been completed successfully and the number of credits that have been earned.

About the Final Exam

The final exam is a proctored, two-hour, closed book, multiple-choice test that includes approximately 100 questions and tests the material on all of the quizzes. The final exam questions are very similar to the questions on the online quizzes, but are not the same questions.

Since the final exam is proctored, students must submit a Proctor Request Form to the Office of Test Administration by the end of the first week of the semester.

Students cannot review the final exam after testing. If students do not pass the exam and still wish to earn the credit, they may re-register for the course, pay the fee, and retake the final exam during a new semester.
