Suicide Prevention Information


In keeping with the Madison Holleran Suicide Prevention Act, it is the goal of Thomas Edison State University to provide important information to foster the well-being of its students and alumni. The nature of TESU’s online learning format does not always allow for the opportunity to meet with students in a face-to-face setting, but the University strives to ensure its students have important mental health information and resources available to them.

If you or someone you know is in crisis or in need of urgent care, they are encouraged to utilize the following resources, which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week:

  • 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

    988 is the three-digit dialing code that routes callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. When someone calls, texts, or chats 988, they are connected to trained counselors that are part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. These trained counselors listen, understand how the caller’s problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources, if necessary. People experiencing emotional distress or suicidal crisis can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

    NJ Suicide Prevention Hopeline provides callers the opportunity to call, chat, email, and text. The NJ Suicide Prevention Hopeline’s goal is to lessen the amount of distress the caller is currently experiencing and to work collaboratively to develop a resolution to whatever stressors prompted the caller to reach out.
