Interested in the specialty diagnostic area of sleep? Boost your skills or explore a new career path in sleep disorder studies with a 17-credit undergraduate certificate in polysomnography from Thomas Edison State University (TESU).

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and approved by the New Jersey State Board of Polysomnography, our program fulfills the requirements for licensure/certification in New Jersey. Our program was developed with sleep medicine professionals from Capital Health’s Center for Sleep Medicine in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

You must complete two clinical experiences at The Center for Sleep Medicine at Capital Health and online courses. Students holding a Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) license are not required to complete the clinical courses.

If you cannot complete your clinical experiences in New Jersey and do not expect to work in the state after you complete the program, please check the directory for your state’s licensing requirements. If you do not reside near a clinical partnership location, you are required to arrange your accredited PSG clinical experience. You cannot complete this program if a clinical site cannot be located, or other arrangements be made.

Polysomnography Clinical Compliance

Clinical compliance requirements must be met before starting the Clinical Fundamentals of Polysomnography (PSG-2000) and Therapeutic Interventions and Patient Management (PSG-1050) courses. If you have a Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) credential, you will receive credits for these courses and do not have to complete the clinical courses and compliance requirements. Clinical compliance requirements include American Heart Association basic life support for health providers instruction, a drug screen, proof of immunity or immunization for all vaccine-preventable diseases, professional liability and major medical health insurance coverage. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and completion of a criminal background check are also required. Affiliated agencies and facilities have the right to preclude you if you do not have a clear criminal background check. This may result in the inability to complete clinical requirements and complete the program. We encourage you to start the clinical compliance process three months before you would like to enroll in PSG-2000 or PSG-1050. You cannot enroll in these courses unless all compliance requirements are met and clinical clearance has been received.

Students should work closely with their Academic Advisor before registering for any courses.
