Associate in Arts in Human Services

Follow your passion for providing services to people in need. Advance your career in the human services field with an Associate in Arts degree in Human Services from Thomas Edison State University (TESU). Our online 60-credit program is designed for working adults and will provide the foundational knowledge you need for roles in social work, counseling, community management and more.

Admission to our degree program requires a minimum of six (6) months/800 hours of current work experience in the human services field and a current resume. Once you have completed your Associate degree, seamlessly transfer your credits and continue your studies to pursue your Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree at TESU.

Learning Outcomes

Upon earning your Associate in Arts in Human Services degree, you will be able to:

  • Define key concepts in the area of study
  • Identify theories of professional practice
  • Explain the specific skills, techniques, and agencies necessary to serve client populations
  • Explain cultural diversity as it relates to the field of Human Services

Required Courses:

  • Three (3) credits in Theoretical Foundation*
  • Three (3) credits in Intervention*
  • Three (3) credits in Client Populations*
  • Three (3) credit Capstone course

* Theoretical Foundation courses include those pertaining to theory, knowledge and skills of the human services profession.

* Intervention courses include those which emphasize theory and knowledge bases for interventions and criteria for selection of appropriate interventions.

* Client Population courses include those which emphasize the range of populations served and needs addressed by human services professionals.

Transfer Your Credit

Have you attended college before? If so, you may be able to transfer credits earned at other regionally accredited colleges or universities. The University also offers a variety of other ways to earn credit – all designed around the needs of adult learners, like you.
