Thomas Edison State University’s (TESU) Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program prepares nurse leaders to shape the profession and the future of healthcare. Our MSN degree program is for nurses who have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and wish to pursue advanced roles in healthcare administration, informatics and nursing education.

Our accredited MSN program prepares you to assume leadership roles in a diverse, technologically challenging and global healthcare environment. You can pursue a range of areas of specialization, including in healthcare administration, informatics and nursing education, and take the next step in expanding your education and expertise. You will learn from mentors who are experienced nurse educators and practice leaders from across the country.

MSN program benefits include:

  • Fully online courses and mentored learning programs where students actively participate.
  • A certificate in your selected area of specialty is awarded along with the MSN degree.
  • Up to 12 graduate credits may be transferred and applied to your MSN degree.
  • Each MSN specialty has 100 hours in each practicum course (for a total of 200 hours). The practicum courses are done back-to-back at the end of the program.

Our flexible program is designed for busy, working nursing professionals. You'll be able to complete your degree while managing your personal and professional responsibilities.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master’s degree program in nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Thomas Edison State University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

What You'll Learn


In the MSN program, you will learn to:

  • Use scholarly inquiry to evaluate current knowledge from nursing theory, nursing science and related disciplines to inform changes in nursing practice.
  • Apply ethical decision making to nursing practice.
  • Analyze the effect of health policy, finance, technology and the organizational context on quality nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate leadership strategies that advance the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing practice.
  • Examine the effect of sociopolitical, cultural and global influences on nursing practice.
  • Utilize interprofessional communication to improve healthcare outcomes.
  • Integrate technological advances into healthcare.

Areas of Study


Our program offers three specialized areas of study. You'll earn a graduate certificate in your chosen specialization alongside your MSN.
  • Nurse Educator

    This area prepares you for teaching roles in healthcare and academic settings. An aging population combined with current nursing shortages means nursing schools have a critical need for qualified faculty members. A Nurse Educator certificate is awarded in addition to the degree upon MSN program completion.

    This concentration prepares you to function as a nurse informaticist. Lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care through the integration of nursing science, data and technical sciences. A Nursing Informatics certificate is awarded in addition to the degree upon MSN program completion.
